11. Peru (Schmidt Paloma, 47th, 84 points)

elizabeth's last 3 races have stunned me really. well done. as it is now she needs to make up 13 points on the bunch of girls among the top 6.

manyi's in 49th place on 88 points which puts her in gold fleet, while vic dropped into 65th place on 108 points placing her in silver fleet.

the good news is that elizabeth has now a fighting chance for qualifying. moreover, of the sailors that are in contention she has the highest 2nd discard (a 33) and stands to gain the most should the 2nd discard come into play.

the bad news is that the competition will now be even tougher in the gold fleet. of note is the spanish girl who recorded two wins on day 4. the top 6 sailors are now also able to keep a lookout for their closest contenders and will therefore be making the effort to cover their asses.

we also don't know if the light airs will hold up for long.

looking at the top end, almost everyone has ugly numbers posted on the board. can't place bets on anyone really.

. . .

on monday i tried to get two nus professors to debunk the theory that materials science is about spending many dull hours in the lab watching the (re)action slowly unfold before your eyes.

today i spent many dull hours in my room trying to sort out all my clothes with only the use of my eyes.

oh well tomorrow shouldn't be in the least dull at all.
