scholar (we'll see about that), leader (nope, i'm in mp) and global citizen.

which is more important.

the fact that applications for 2010 semesters aren't available yet?

the fact that i coached for free today?

the fact that i just saw wes brown head man u into the lead with arsenal v chelsea playing later tonight? dammit.

the fact that i heard rachel's voice today?

no point comparing apples with mandarin oranges.

psp

today alone i must have seen about 8 different people playing with their portable playstations. on the mrt, at the bus stop, walking in the middle of a cycling track.

one week ago i played soccer with my platoon mates at the east coast cage. a group of us had subway for lunch, after which we split up to head home. one of them was taking the same bus with me as we stayed in the same area. after 9 weeks i knew he was a guy of few words yet i never expected him to immediately retrieve his psp from his bag once we got on board. i was quite unhappy. i could count the number of words we exchanged from that point onwards with my fingers alone (halfway through the trip he finished one game, looked at me and said, "you wanna play?").

i'll probably never see him again. all i have is a memory and an unfortunate impression of the dude.

cai was right la. you do see the wierdest people in army, as well as all those in between. one realises there are people who stay at home the whole day and conduct their social activities over the internet. people who have passion for marching and strong views against governments and idealisms. people who bathe. people who don't bathe.

people that play dota.

ok so they ain't that wierd. that's just our generation.

but the psp may be a bane of this gen. or one of the many (facebook comes to mind).

monday morning i'll meet my bunk mate at yew tee mrt before heading for my first day with the military police. should be exciting.

nice to know many of my friends got into command school.

listen to shearwater. they'll have a new album out this year.

takapuna

20 countries who have qualified:
Argentina
Australia
Belarus
Belgium
Canada
China
Finland
France
Germany
Great Britain
Israel
Italy
Lithuania
Mexico
Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Poland
Switzerland
USA

These countries are after the remaining 6 slots:
Brazil, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Greece, India, Ireland, Virgin Islands, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Serbia, Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Turkey and Venezuela.

Currently it stands as thus:
1. Sweden (Soderstrom Karin, 10th, 45 points)
2. Russia (Chernova Anastasia, 15th, 50 points)
3. Paraguay (Cerutti Bogado Florencia, 17th, 51 points)
4. Greece (Mantzaraki Eftychia, 20th, 53 points)
5. Spain (Romero Steensma Susana, 21st, 54 points)
6. Croatia (Mihelic Tina, 23rd, 54 points)

7. Ireland (Hanna Debbie, 29th, 64 points)
8. Denmark (Schutt Maiken, 31st, 66 points)
9. Singapore (Yin Elizabeth, 32nd, 67 points)
10. Czechoslovakia (Fenclova Veronika, 39th, 72 points)
11. Peru (Schmidt Paloma, 47th, 84 points)

elizabeth's last 3 races have stunned me really. well done. as it is now she needs to make up 13 points on the bunch of girls among the top 6.

manyi's in 49th place on 88 points which puts her in gold fleet, while vic dropped into 65th place on 108 points placing her in silver fleet.

the good news is that elizabeth has now a fighting chance for qualifying. moreover, of the sailors that are in contention she has the highest 2nd discard (a 33) and stands to gain the most should the 2nd discard come into play.

the bad news is that the competition will now be even tougher in the gold fleet. of note is the spanish girl who recorded two wins on day 4. the top 6 sailors are now also able to keep a lookout for their closest contenders and will therefore be making the effort to cover their asses.

we also don't know if the light airs will hold up for long.

looking at the top end, almost everyone has ugly numbers posted on the board. can't place bets on anyone really.

. . .

on monday i tried to get two nus professors to debunk the theory that materials science is about spending many dull hours in the lab watching the (re)action slowly unfold before your eyes.

today i spent many dull hours in my room trying to sort out all my clothes with only the use of my eyes.

oh well tomorrow shouldn't be in the least dull at all.
